Wild turkey strut, Whitefish, Montana

Wild turkey ~ Meleagris gallopavo merriami are considered exotic species by the Montana Field Guide produced by Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks. There are five subspecies of wild turkeys native to North America and the Merriam's subspecies range currently includes Montana. In northwestern Montana, wild turkeys are commonly seen along most highways near open fields.

The wild turkey strut is a powerful sight, especially when looking out my bedroom window just after sunrise.
