The American White Pelican is just that white, when sitting with it's wings closed, the visible feathers white, but the moment the American White Pelican starts to lift their wings the sharp contrast of the black wing tips, with the the no longer all white body, jumps out at you. "The plumage is almost entirely bright white, except the black primary and secondary remiges, which are hardly visible except in flight." see Note 1
