Hummingbirds mother feeding one of her chicks. Small hummingbird nest in the crotch of a birch tree. When the mother is caring for young chicks she will increase her diet to include more spiders and insect.

Hummingbird resting a a fence post. In my area Hummingbirds share a trait with Ravens, I can usually hear a Hummingbird before I can see it. Hummingbirds are very common in northwest Montana. Finding the nests is another story altogether.

Hummingbirds are much easier to see and photograph when you have a house to use as a base. I finally got around to putting up a hummingbird feeder this year, but the hummingbirds had been abound my house nesting in the woods at the edge of clearings. The Hummingbird feeder just brings them more frequently to a specific spot outside my window.
